A fun-filled guided sea kayaking trip travelling south from Craster to explore the reefs, rocky gullies and coastline around Cullernose Point. This is a lively Northumberland coastal journey with coaching throughout, playful water movement, and — when conditions allow — opportunities to try a little surfing on reef edges.

This is not just a straight paddle from A to B. The route south from Craster lets us explore reef systems, rocky features and gullies, with coaching built in throughout. In the right conditions there may also be chances to try a little surfing on the reef edges.
If you like the idea of exploring coastline rather than simply covering distance, this is the trip. It suits adults and older teens who want a more active session with variety, movement and a real sense of journey.

What to expect
Practical details
Usually 10:00 or 13:30. We plan the route around wind, swell and tide to make the most of the coastline.
Around 3 hours — long enough to travel south from Craster, explore features properly and enjoy a session with real variety.
Best suited to 16+. This is a lively coastal paddle with coaching, movement and plenty to keep the journey interesting.
Reefs, gullies and the Cullernose coastline make this one of the more characterful and playful sea kayak journeys south of Craster.
When conditions are right, there may be opportunities to try a little surfing or playful water work on reef edges under close guidance.
Kayak, paddle, wetsuit, buoyancy aid and coaching throughout the trip.

Meet at our base near Craster NE66 3SS, adjacent to HM Coastguard Station. Changing rooms and toilets are available. Please do not confuse this with the lifeboat station. Full directions are sent after booking.

Is this trip more active than a gentle scenic paddle?
Yes. This trip has a more active feel, with reefs, gullies and a stronger sense of movement on the sea than a purely gentle scenic paddle.
Do I need loads of kayaking experience?
No, but you should be happy being active on the sea. We coach throughout the session and build skills as we go.
Will there be surfing?
Sometimes. On suitable days there may be opportunities to try a little playful surfing or work with small moving water on reef edges. It always depends on conditions and the group.
Why is this trip 16+?
Because it is a more active coastal journey with reefs, movement and a stronger sense of travelling through dynamic water rather than a simpler paddle.
What should I bring?
Bring swimwear for under your wetsuit, a towel and any personal medication. We provide the kayak, paddle, wetsuit and buoyancy aid.
What happens if conditions are unsuitable?
Safety comes first. If conditions mean we can’t run safely, we’ll offer a reschedule or suitable alternative wherever possible, with refunds handled in line with our terms.
