Discover the Cheviot Hills

The Cheviots are a very different side of Northumberland. Beyond the coast are broad open hills, quiet valleys, remote Border country, waterfalls and landscapes shaped by people over thousands of years.

Our guided walks take the pressure out of planning and navigation. Choose the kind of day you want, meet your guide and enjoy the hills while we take care of the route.

Walks operate every Wednesday and Sunday throughout the year. A minimum of two people is required for a departure, but individual walkers are very welcome to book and join others.

A Guided Day, Not a Race

The aim is to enjoy the hills. Your guide manages the route and navigation while helping you get more from the landscape around you.

Pace is adjusted to suit the group and, where necessary, the route can be adapted for weather, ground conditions or the people walking that day.

Who Are These Walks For?

You don’t need to be an experienced hillwalker, although you should be comfortable spending a day outdoors and walking on uneven ground.

Some routes involve sustained climbing, boggy terrain, rough paths and exposed hills. If you’re unsure which route would suit you best, contact us before booking.

What You’ll Need

  • Walking boots or suitable walking footwear
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Warm layers suitable for the season
  • Food and drinks for the day
  • A small rucksack
  • Hat and gloves in cooler conditions
  • Any personal medication you may require

What’s Included

  • Experienced walk leader
  • Route planning and navigation
  • Small group experience
  • Local knowledge of the Cheviots
  • Adaptation of the day to conditions

Walking All Year

The Cheviots change dramatically with the seasons and that’s part of their appeal. We walk throughout the year, but routes may be changed when wind, snow, visibility, ground conditions or other factors make the original plan unsuitable.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome on many of our guided walks but must be kept under control and on a lead where required. Much of the Cheviot countryside is working sheep country, so please let us know when booking if you intend to bring a dog.

Looking for a Private Guided Walk?

Wednesday or Sunday doesn’t suit? If you have a particular route, date or objective in mind, ask us about arranging a private guided day in the Cheviots.
